LEIDA KIRST
22.01.1930 – 05.11.2022
With deep reverence and gratitude, we say our final goodbye today to you, dear Leida – our beloved mother, (great-)grandmother, sister, teacher, friend, companion, and a fiercely strong woman of Muhu.
Life, for all of us, is a path filled with trials and endless choices. You, Leida, were gifted with a talent that you had both the skill and the opportunity to develop, share, and bring to life. Thanks to you, many have discovered their own passion – for handicrafts, for Muhu embroidery, for painting and drawing – and, most importantly, the ability to see and cherish the beauty of the natural world around them.
Your daily poetic line, “carry beauty within yourself,” extended into everything that surrounded you. Few could resist admiring the beautifully designed and carefully tended flower beds at your summer home in Muhu. And you managed to create that same beauty even in more difficult times, when your children were still small and there were seemingly many other “more important” things to attend to.
Your dignity and sense of justice – in life, and even more so towards its end – were truly admirable. Even in your final years, when we visited you in the care home in Muhu and your memory had begun to fade, your main concern was still: “Are you getting along well with your partners and not inviting quarrels?” And your nightly routine – wishing your loved ones all the very best before falling asleep – always brought us peace of mind, reassuring us that everything was alright.
Everything is alright with us, thanks to you, dear Leida – for without you, we would not be here, and we would not be even half the people we are today.
Thank you for being with us.
